Hello! This is a blog about me and my dog, Ann Perkins, and our quest for the holy grail of dog agility.

Ann Perkins

My dear friend, Amy Carter, was originally going to adopt this worm and flea-ridden, scrawny, little dog. Amy named Ann Perkins after the character on Parks and Rec because her dog was named after another character on Parks and Rec, Jean-Ralphio. Amy was in the middle of a move, so I ended up adopting Ann. I decided to keep the name because it fit her perfectly.  If you know the show, you know that Ann Perkins was played by a beautiful actress of ambiguous ethnicity (Parks and Rec’s description of Rashida Jones).   Everywhere I go, people ask me what kind of dog Ann is and I just tell them she’s a street dog.  I think she is a mix of Dachshund, Chihuahua and maybe some kind of terrier? I don’t know. My friends urge me to get a DNA test on Ann but if I did that, she would no longer be Ann Perkins because her ethnicity would not be ambiguous.  So no DNA test for her! It doesn’t matter anyway.  She’s a beautiful tropical fish!

EDIT: I have done some research and I believe she is a Flat-Coated Straßehund of the Pequeno variety. Yeah. That’s what she is.

About

Ann Perkins and I started our dog agility journey in 2017 when she floated into my life. She was a street dog and needed some obedience training. We went to Julie Benoit at Einstein’s Canine College (https://einsteinscanine.com) and received our AKC Star Puppy and Canine Good Citizen titles. We started agility training at Azalea Dog Training Club ( https://adtcus.wpcomstaging.com) in January of 2018.  In July of 2019, we entered our first agility competition and we are now working up the  ladder of dog agility titles.

The dog agility photos were taken by Phyllis Ensley Photography in Concord, NC and the portraits were taken by Marcus Anthony Photography in Wilmington, NC.
